Resiliency and Spirit of Islanders to be Honoured in 2021 Gold Cup Parade Neighbourhood Tour

In a news conference held in conjunction with Old Home Week on Wednesday, July 28, additional details of the Gold Cup Parade Neighbourhood Tour were announced. In lieu of the traditional Parade, two smaller, abbreviated versions of the Parade will travel through neighbourhoods of Charlottetown, giving spectators a chance to celebrate the traditions of the Gold Cup Parade in a safe manner.

The Neighbourhood Tour will travel through Beach Grove, Brighton, City Center, Sherwood, Parkdale, and Downtown Charlottetown. Each route will include entries that would normally make up the Parade lineup each year, including a Police vehicle, Gold Cup Ambassadors, a band float, a children’s entertainment float, a firetruck, and a community float.

To recognize the resiliency that Islanders have shown over the past 19 months and throughout COVID, the theme for this year’s Gold Cup Parade Neighborhood Tour will be “PEI Spirit”. The Committee has also declared all Islanders as this year’s Honorary Parade Marshal. “This has been an incredibly challenging time for Islanders” says Parade Chair, Ray Murphy.  “The Gold Cup Parade Neighborhood Tour is a way we can celebrate the strength and spirit of Islanders with our community, safely and responsibly.”

The Parade Committee is encouraging all spectators to show their PEI Spirit by visiting any Tim Hortons or Murphy’s Pharmacies location across PEI and picking up a free PEI Flag to wave on Parade Day. Flags will be available beginning Friday, August 6.

Show your PEI Spirit and participants will have the chance to win an exciting prize pack that includes four tickets to view next year’s Gold Cup Parade from the VIP Viewing Stand, a one-night stay at a local hotel, and more. To enter, participants can post a photo showing their PEI Spirit with their PEI Flag and tagging Gold Cup Parade on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram.

Plans for this year’s Old Home Week Celebrations were also announced today.  This year’s Old Home Week will present “Country Days”, a new event where a collection of activities will take place throughout downtown Charlottetown from August 13-21. More information can be found at
